Very touching conversation.

When I set out to meditate my mind is constantly producing all sorts of fantasies and figments. And usually more the unpleasant kind at that. Which is why the only meditation technique that works well for me is the one where I count in sync with my breath - that keeps the problem oriented mind busy and allows me to assess whether I am even meditating at all and if not then to return to meditation.

As you probably already know it's the basic technique taught in Zen meditation. I practice all sorts of meditation but this is the only kind to which I can specifically attribute actual beneficial transitions.
