I suspect that using one's heart to navigate is a way bypass the ego. Or at least an alternative way to navigate, or an adjunct method. This is because I find that checking my heart compass can be done without words, bypassing the ego voice (modeled with the Cog. Beh. Therapy Behavior Chain: Stimulus - words - emotion- action etc.
