The Path of Knowledge
A year of inquiry, drawing inspiration from yogic traditions
How do we know what we think we know? And what do we do to embody it?
These sorts of questions keep bubbling up when I talk about yoga. Teacher trainings often start with the former – to address misconceptions, we first have to clarify some standards of evidence. Those principles are more to the fore in an academic setting, but it soon gets quite abstract unless all that knowledge has practical relevance.
So I’m excited to blend both perspectives for a year-long immersion – combining insights from yogic traditions with critical thinking. Together, we’ll relate what they teach to contemporary objectives, and consider its influence on our own lives.

To quote the opening lines on the programme website, if the answer to any of these questions is yes, then this course is for you…:
“Have you ever wondered how ancient wisdom might solve modern problems? Would you like to feel clearer about ‘authenticity’, both in relation to yogic traditions and your own life? Do you have doubts about prioritising postures ahead of philosophy? Have you ever been tempted to study a yoga degree, but felt wary about academia?”
We start in September, with fortnightly seminars – held live on Zoom – to explore key themes, and a mix of materials to help you prepare, including video overviews, PDFs of readings and 1-to-1 tutorials. We end with a project that will help you to integrate what you've learned with your personal interests. Along the way, you'll get:
What I teach at university for a fraction of the cost.
Engaging and accessible takes on the latest research.
Discussions on how to apply it in teaching and practice.
More yoga philosophy than most advanced trainings.
An international community of like-minded peers.

In conclusion, to quote my book, The Truth of Yoga:
“The idea of a single tradition is as much of an illusion as the recent implication that anything is yoga because someone says it is. As methods change, what keeps them anchored in what went before, and how does that connect to contemporary objectives?”
