Navigating Bias
Yogic antidotes to self-deluding tendencies
How attached do we get to the stories that strike us as true? To what extent is this unconscious, and what might be done about it? What helps to differentiate opinions from facts? Are disagreements unwelcome, or might they be useful?
I recently discussed these questions – among many others – with Peter Sterios and Krystal Ariel on their podcast, My Inner Teacher. An excerpt is posted below, plus a link to the video on YouTube, which premieres tomorrow (October 16). You can also stream the episode on podcast platforms, including Apple and Spotify.
As I mention elsewhere in the interview, “I think respectful dialogue that allows for disagreement is great training” for loosening attachment to fixed points of view. And since it’s all too easy these days to get lost in an algorithmic echo chamber, it helps to be open to being proved wrong, rather than clinging to potential self-delusion.
